We are currently seeking a Senior Embedded Electrical Engineer to play a pivotal role in advancing industry-leading Software Defined Imaging (SDI) solutions. In this position, you will be responsible for joining a high-speed team in the design, development, and maintenance of embedded and electrical systems for Eoptic’s state-of-the-art electro-optical payloads. With strong partnerships in the defense and space sectors, Eoptic has a proven track record in designing optomechanical layouts for cameras and compute modules deployed in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) and future military platforms. The ideal candidate will drive innovation in our electrical and embedded system architectures, contributing to the development and scale of Eoptic’s transformational optical system solutions.
Job Responsibilities (not limited to):
- Design, implementation, and testing of VHDL firmware modules.
- Design, implementation, and testing of C software modules.
- Assist in product testing campaigns.
- Development of digital and electro-optical systems.
- Lead the electrical and embedded system architecture for on-orbit sensor data capture and processing.
- Design for space and military environmental constraints, optimizing size, mass, power, and cost.
- Develop and integrate embedded and electrical control systems, including FPGA-based image processing and motion control for precision mechanisms.
- Perform board-level thermal and radiation analysis to ensure system resilience in space.
- Generate technical documentation to support manufacturing, integration, and testing.
- Provide agile-sprint embedded solutions in accordance with program milestone and deliverable schedules to support technical integration and delivery requirements
- Recruit, mentor, and manage a high-performing team of embedded and electrical engineers.
- Align technical developments with Eoptic’s long-term business and mission objectives.
Qualification Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field: Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering.
- 5+ years’ experience in the design of high-speed TDI imaging arrays cameras
- 5+ years’ experience in high-speed, high-density PCB routing in 8+ layers.
- 8+ years’ experience developing digital electronics, including embedded firmware.
- Experience in writing C code in an embedded environment.
- Experience with Python (or similar scripting languages) will be advantageous.
- Understanding of high-speed and high-reliability design practices.
- Experience designing firmware and boards that have flown in space.
- Strong knowledge of techniques for avoiding and mitigating single event upsets and latchups
- Understanding of power and thermal constraints within hosted payloads
- Environmental test plan development and implementation for electronics
- Familiarity with watchdogs, data reduction, and memory management
- Familiarity with machine learning concepts
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex concepts and technical information clearly and concisely.
- Extensive experience in a leadership or management position.
- Must be eligible to hold a clearance
Qualifications Preferred:
- Master’s Degree in relevant field: Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering.
- Experience in the high-tech, military or aerospace sectors is an added bonus.
- Expert in VHDL, C++, and python.
- Experience with Microsemi FPGAs will be an advantage.
- Experience with multi-layer PCB design, especially for space environments, will be an advantage.
- Experience in environmental testing and acceptance testing to high-quality standards.
- Experience in CCD and CMOS electro-optical design.
- Familiarity with encryption techniques.
- Background in camera systems, image processing, and optical testing.
- Strong understanding of in-space radiation environments.
- Experience designing and programming motion control systems.
